A record number of tourists and even more flights – demand for a slice of the Spanish lifestyle keeps increasing! Getting to a second home in Spain is set to get easier for Brits in 2017, with a raft of new flights being launched to the Costas to meet demand from tourists wanting to holiday or live in the sun. The new routes couldn’t come soon enough, as Spain enjoyed a record year for foreign tourists in 2016 and is comfortably the world’s third most visited country. The country attracted a staggering 75.3 million international visitors last year which was an increase of almost 10 per cent on 2015 figures. Extra flights are especially beneficial to British owners who rent out their Spanish home as good flight connections and short transfer times put you at an advantage when letting your home in the sun and destinations such as the Costa Blanca are hard to beat for that. The area is within easy reach of the UK, with flights taking just over 2 hours and is accessible by ferry or car so Spain has always been popular for holiday home ownership and their guests. British Airways is bringing Murcia and the southern Costa Blanca closer to the UK with a twice weekly London Heathrow flight to Murcia’s San Javier airport, kicking off on 28th March. Other airlines adding new UK flights include budget Spanish airline Vueling, which has introduced a major expansion in passenger capacity on flights from Cardiff airport for the summer season. Following strong demand some 190,812 seats are now on sale on flights to Alicante, Barcelona, Malaga and Palma between April and October. Other flights soon to be launched to Spain include easyJet’s new route from Luton to Valencia from February 2017 and Ryanair’s additional routes from Glasgow, namely four weekly flights to Malaga and three weekly flights to Alicante.
